Some 120 km from Maputo, The Pontas are the southernmost holiday spots in Mozambique, frequented for their beaches, diving and water sports and, of course, marine life.

For many South Africans, dolphin encounters are synonymous with Ponta do Ouro, the home of Dolphin Encounters  - www.dolphin-encounters.co.za -, who offer dolphin adventures and work alongside a research team.

Ponta do Ouro is a straggle of shops, restaurants and bars in a village near the beach; Ponta Malongane is a glorious beach 5 km north of Ponta do Ouro, and Ponta Mamoli is even smaller, 11 km north of that.
The infrastructure and services here are pretty basic.

The reason people come to the Pontas is for the sheer delight of it.
There are long, wide beaches, crashing waves, coral reefs, bottlenose dolphins, leatherback turtles, cocktail-wielding holiday makers.

This is diving and snorkelling central, the number one place for dolphin swimming, and the fishing here is also excellent.
